How to schedule Instagram Reels
On this page
To schedule an Instagram Reel, you need a Professional account (Business or Creator, both free). In the Instagram app, create the Reel as usual, and on the final screen open More options (or Advanced settings) and turn on Schedule this post, then pick the date and time. On a computer, Meta Business Suite schedules Reels for the Instagram account linked to your Facebook Page.
You can schedule up to 75 days ahead and up to 25 posts a day, according to Instagram's help page. Personal Instagram accounts can't schedule, natively or through any tool. Switching to a Creator account takes a minute in Settings → Account type and tools and doesn't cost anything.
Schedule a Reel in the Instagram app
- Tap + and choose Reel.
- Pick the vertical video (9:16) and add any text, music or stickers.
- Tap Next and write the caption and hashtags.
- Open More options or Advanced settings (the name moves between versions).
- Turn on Schedule this post, set a date and time up to 75 days away, and tap Schedule.
You'll find scheduled Reels in your profile menu under Scheduled content, where you can change the time or post them right away.
Schedule a Reel in Meta Business Suite
If your Instagram account is linked to a Facebook Page:
- Open Meta Business Suite and choose Create reel.
- Select Instagram (and the Facebook Page if you want it there too).
- Upload the video and write the caption.
- Under Scheduling options, choose Schedule, pick the time and confirm.
Business Suite is handy because the same Reel can go to Facebook in one step. See how to add captions to Facebook Reels for the Facebook side.
What goes wrong
- No schedule option. The account is Personal. Switch it to Creator or Business.
- The Reel posts as a square feed video. The file isn't 9:16. Export vertical, 1080×1920.
- Music disappears. Some licensed music can't be added outside the app, and some can't be used on Business accounts. Add sound in the app, or use your original audio.
- Text is cut off. Instagram overlays the caption and buttons at the bottom and right. Keep on-screen captions in the middle of the frame. See how to make a Reel.
When to post Reels
Look at your own audience first: Professional dashboard → Total followers → Most active times shows when your followers are on Instagram. Schedule a little before the busiest hours, pick one slot, and stay with it for a few weeks before judging it.
Scheduling Reels with your other platforms
Instagram's scheduler only posts to Instagram, and Business Suite only adds Facebook. If your Reels also go to YouTube Shorts and TikTok, that's a lot of re-uploading.
ClipFlame cuts Reels from your long videos with captions already burned in, and its scheduler posts them to Instagram (Business and Creator accounts, connected through their Facebook Page) along with YouTube, TikTok and Facebook, at the times you pick. For the clip side, see the Instagram Reels maker.
Common questions
How far ahead can you schedule an Instagram Reel?
Up to 75 days, with a limit of 25 scheduled posts a day.
Can a personal Instagram account schedule Reels?
No. Scheduling needs a Business or Creator account, in the app and in every third-party tool.
Do scheduled Reels get less reach?
Nothing suggests Instagram ranks a scheduled Reel differently. It's published at the time you set, like a Reel you post by hand.
Can I edit a scheduled Reel?
You can change the time, or post it now, from Scheduled content. For bigger changes, delete it and schedule it again.
Can I schedule a Reel to Instagram and TikTok together?
Not with Instagram's own tools. A multi-platform scheduler does it; see how to post to Reels, Shorts and TikTok at the same time.
