Crop or fit?
- Crop to fill suits photos with one clear subject. Use Keep to choose which part survives: the top for a face, the center for a product.
- Fit the whole image suits screenshots, slides and anything with text near the edges. The blurred background looks less like a mistake than black bars.
Which Instagram size to use
Use 4:5 portrait (1080 × 1350) for feed posts. It takes up the most room in the feed without being cropped. Instagram's profile grid now shows posts as 3:4 rectangles, so if your grid's look matters, 3:4 (1080 × 1440) shows the whole image there too. For a grid that forms one big picture, use the Instagram grid maker.
JPG or PNG?
JPG for photos, because the file is smaller and every platform compresses it again anyway. PNG for graphics with text, logos or flat colours, which stay sharper.
Video, not images?
