YouTube description generator
Fill in a short summary, your chapters, links and hashtags. The generator puts them in the order YouTube viewers expect and checks the rules YouTube enforces: chapters must start at 0:00, there must be at least three, each at least 10 seconds long, and a description with more than 60 hashtags loses all of them.
The structure
- Summary. Search results and the collapsed description show only the first couple of lines. Say what the video is about, with the words people search for.
- Chapters. Timestamps that split the video into sections. They show up on the progress bar and in Google results.
- Links. Products, resources and social accounts, each with a label.
- Subscribe link. Your channel URL with
?sub_confirmation=1added opens a subscribe prompt for the viewer. - Hashtags. The first three appear above the title.
Chapter rules
YouTube only shows chapters when the first starts at 0:00, there are at least three, and each lasts at least 10 seconds. Write them as a time followed by a name, one per line: 2:15 Squats. Our guide to YouTube chapters covers them in more detail.
Tracking links
Add UTM tags to links that go to your own site, so you can see in your analytics which video sent the visit. The UTM builder has a preset for YouTube descriptions.
Limits
Descriptions can be up to 5,000 characters. The counter turns red past the limit.
