YouTube title generator
Type your video's topic in a few words, like "home workouts" or "editing on an iPhone", and get 24 title ideas built on formats that work on YouTube: guides, mistakes, challenges, comparisons and lists. Each one shows its length. Copy one and adjust it so it describes your video accurately.
Writing a title that gets clicked
- Front-load the topic. YouTube cuts long titles, especially on phones. Keep the words people search for in the first 50 characters or so.
- Make one promise. "7 Home Workout Mistakes Beginners Make" tells viewers exactly what they'll get.
- Pair it with the thumbnail. The title and thumbnail are read together. Don't repeat the thumbnail text in the title; add to it.
- Keep it true. A title that overpromises gets clicks and then loses viewers in the first 30 seconds, which hurts the video more than a lower click-through rate.
Length limit
YouTube titles can be up to 100 characters. Most good titles are much shorter, between 40 and 70. Titles over the limit are marked in red.
After the title
Write the first line of the video with the hook generator, the description with the description generator, check the title and thumbnail together in the thumbnail tester, and after publishing, track your click-through rate with the CTR calculator.
Common questions
How long should a YouTube title be?
YouTube allows 100 characters, but most good titles land between 40 and 70, with the searched words in the first 50 or so, because phones cut long titles.
Is the YouTube title generator free?
Yes. Type a topic and you get 24 title ideas with a character count for each, no sign-up.
Should the title repeat the thumbnail text?
No. The title and thumbnail are read together, so let each add something the other doesn't say.
Can I test which title works better?
Yes, after publishing: YouTube's A/B testing in Studio can test up to three titles. See how to A/B test thumbnails and titles.
