YouTube transcript generator
Open the video on YouTube, click ...more under it, then Show transcript. Select the whole transcript, copy it, and paste it into the box. You get clean text in paragraphs, or one timestamped line per segment, to copy or download as a TXT or SRT file. It runs in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.
Getting the transcript from YouTube
- On a computer, open the video on youtube.com.
- Click ...more in the description, scroll down and click Show transcript. The transcript opens beside the video.
- Click at the start of the first line, scroll to the end, and shift-click after the last line. Copy with Ctrl+C or Cmd+C.
On a phone, the transcript can be viewed but not copied easily. If a video has no Show transcript button, its owner turned captions off or YouTube didn't make them. In that case, transcribe the file yourself with video to text, which runs Whisper in your browser.
What the cleaner does
YouTube copies the transcript as alternating time and text lines, plus screen reader labels like "2 minutes, 5 seconds". The generator drops the labels, joins each segment's text, and either merges everything into paragraphs or keeps one line per timestamp. The SRT download times each line from its timestamp to the next one.
Using a transcript
A transcript makes a quick blog post, show notes or a description with chapters. Build the description with the description generator. See how to get a YouTube video's transcript for more ways.
Common questions
How do I get the transcript of a YouTube video?

Can I download a YouTube transcript as SRT?
Yes. Paste the copied transcript and download it as a TXT or an SRT file.
Why is there no Show transcript button?
The video has no captions: the owner turned them off, or YouTube didn't generate them. Use video to text to transcribe your own file instead.
