Engagement rate calculator

Enter your likes, comments, shares and saves, plus your followers, views or reach. For several posts, enter the totals and the number of posts. The calculator divides the average interactions per post by your followers, views or reach. The formula by followers is (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ posts ÷ followers × 100. Leave a field at 0 if your platform doesn't show it.

Which way to measure

Measure by Formula Best for
Followers interactions per post ÷ followers Comparing accounts, and what brands usually ask for
Views interactions ÷ views Reels, TikTok and YouTube, where most views come from non-followers
Reach interactions ÷ accounts reached Judging one post against your others

A viral Reel can look great by followers (many interactions, few followers) and ordinary by views. Use the same method when you compare.

What's a good engagement rate?

By followers, a rough rule of thumb:

  • Under 1%: low
  • 1% to 3%: average to good
  • 3% to 6%: high
  • Over 6%: very high

Rates fall as accounts grow, so a 2% rate is better at 500,000 followers than at 5,000. TikTok rates by followers usually run higher than Instagram's, and Facebook's and LinkedIn's lower. Compare yourself with accounts of a similar size on the same platform.

Where to find the numbers

  • Instagram: open a post and tap View insights. Saves and shares only appear on professional accounts.
  • TikTok: in Analytics, or tap the bar chart icon on a video.
  • YouTube: in YouTube Studio, under Analytics → Engagement. YouTube shows likes, comments and shares; there are no saves.
  • LinkedIn and Facebook: open the post's analytics.

Raising your engagement

Post when your followers are online. Use the best time to post calculator for each platform. Then answer comments in the first hour, and post often enough to stay in people's feeds; how often to post has the numbers. A good engagement rate also raises what you can charge brands. Common questions

How do you calculate engagement rate?

Add likes, comments, shares and saves, divide by followers (or views or reach), and multiply by 100. For several posts, use the average per post.

What is a good engagement rate on Instagram?

Rates fall as accounts grow, so compare with accounts your size on the same platform. A 2% rate is stronger at 500,000 followers than at 5,000.

Should I measure by followers or views?

Use one method consistently. By followers suits sponsored posts; by views suits Reels and TikToks that reach non-followers.
