How to schedule YouTube Shorts
On this page
To schedule a YouTube Short, upload the vertical video in YouTube Studio, fill in the title and description, and on the Visibility step choose Schedule, then pick a date and time. The Short stays private until then and goes public on its own. The YouTube app lets you schedule from your phone the same way, from the visibility setting before you upload.
Scheduling is how you post a Short every day without opening YouTube every day. You batch the clips once, set the times, and get on with the next video.
Schedule a Short on desktop (YouTube Studio)
- Go to YouTube Studio and click Create → Upload videos.
- Choose the vertical video. YouTube treats a vertical or square video up to 3 minutes long as a Short. See how long YouTube Shorts can be.
- Add the title. On Shorts the title shows over the video, so keep it short and specific.
- Add a description of a line or two and one or two hashtags. Most Shorts viewers never open it. See descriptions for Shorts.
- Set Audience (made for kids or not) and click through Video elements and Checks.
- On Visibility, choose Schedule, pick the date and time, and click Schedule.
The time is in the time zone shown next to it, which is your channel's default. YouTube's scheduling help page has the same steps for every upload. If your audience lives somewhere else, convert first.
Schedule a Short on your phone
In the YouTube app, tap + and upload a video. On the details screen, open Visibility and choose Schedule, then set the date and time before you tap Upload. The options look slightly different between app versions; if you don't see Schedule, update the app or finish the upload as Private and schedule it from YouTube Studio on the web.
What goes wrong
- The Short posts as a normal video. It's too long or horizontal. Keep it vertical or square and 3 minutes or shorter.
- Wrong hour. The schedule uses the time zone shown in the picker, not your audience's. Check it every time you travel.
- You can't add a linked video or music. Some Shorts features are only in the app. Add them before you schedule, from the app.
- It went out, but nobody saw it. Timing helps less than you'd think for Shorts. The feed keeps testing clips for days. See how to get more views on YouTube Shorts.
When to schedule them
Pick one daily slot shortly before your viewers are most active, which YouTube Studio shows under Analytics → Audience. With no data yet, try late afternoon in your audience's time zone and keep the slot fixed for a few weeks. The full method is in the best time to post YouTube Shorts.
Scheduling a week of Shorts at once
YouTube Studio schedules one video at a time, and only to YouTube. If the same clips are also going to Instagram Reels, TikTok or Facebook, you're uploading each one three or four times.
That's what a social media video scheduler is for. In ClipFlame, you upload the long video, it cuts the Shorts with captions, and you put each one on a calendar with its title. At that time it uploads the Short to your YouTube channel with the visibility you picked (public, unlisted or private), and to any other account you ticked. A week of Shorts takes a few minutes to set up.
If you already have finished clips, you can upload those to the calendar too.
Common questions
Can you schedule YouTube Shorts?
Yes, in YouTube Studio on desktop and in the YouTube app, by choosing Schedule on the visibility step.
Do scheduled Shorts get less reach?
There's no sign that YouTube treats a scheduled Short differently from one published by hand. It goes public at the time you set, like any other upload.
How far ahead can I schedule a Short?
Far enough for any normal content plan. Most creators schedule one to two weeks ahead, which is also a good limit for keeping clips timely.
Can I schedule Shorts to TikTok and Instagram at the same time?
Not from YouTube. You need a tool that posts to several platforms, such as ClipFlame's scheduler. See how to post to Reels, Shorts and TikTok at the same time.
