French subtitle generator
On this page
ClipFlame generates French subtitles (sous-titres en français) for short clips. Upload a long French video and it cuts the best moments into vertical clips with word-by-word French captions, accents included.
French captions trip up a lot of tools on the details: accents dropped in capitals, apostrophes split from their words, spacing around punctuation. ClipFlame keeps French text as it's transcribed and renders it in a font with full accent support, including the capitals.
ClipFlame captions the clips it cuts from a long video. If you need a subtitle file for a full-length video, use YouTube Studio's captions for that; see how to add captions to a video.
What French captions need
- Accents in capitals. É, È, À, Ç and Ê stay accented in the all-caps styles, as French typography recommends.
- Elisions. Words like l'année, c'est and qu'il stay together in word-by-word styles, so the apostrophe doesn't flash on its own.
- France, Québec, Belgium, Africa. All varieties are transcribed as spoken.
- Longer sentences. French phrasing often runs longer than English; clips still cut on full sentences, never mid-thought.
What it looks like
A clip that opens on this line:
La plus grosse erreur, c'est de ne jamais commencer.
In the bold all-caps styles it appears as:
LA PLUS GROSSE ERREUR, C'EST DE NE JAMAIS COMMENCER.
How it works
- Upload a long French video (MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM) or a Google Drive or Dropbox link.
- French is detected automatically. No settings to change.
- ClipFlame picks the moments that make sense on their own and cuts them on full sentences, 15 to 90 seconds each.
- Captions are burned in word by word, in one of seven styles.
- Fix any word in the editor and re-render for free.
On every plan, the scheduler posts the clips to YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.
Who uses it
French-language podcasters, coaches, trainers, YouTubers and churches in France, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland and Africa.

Oui. Le français est détecté automatiquement, et les sous-titres, titres et descriptions sont écrits en français.
Can I get French captions on an English video?
Yes. Pick French under "Captions in" before you start, and ClipFlame translates the captions of every clip into French. The title, caption and hashtags are written in French too. See the caption translator.
